National Assisted Living Week: Shining Through the Years

Each year, assisted living communities across the country come together to celebrate National Assisted Living Week®, a special opportunity to recognize the residents, families, caregivers, staff members, volunteers, and communities that make assisted living such an important part of so many people’s lives. Established in 1995 by the National Center for Assisted Living, the week is a time to celebrate the people who call assisted living communities home, recognize those who provide care and support each day, and bring everyone together to have fun, share stories, and celebrate what makes each community special.

This year’s theme, “Shining Through the Years,” is a wonderful reminder that every person has a lifetime of experiences, accomplishments, stories, and wisdom to share. Our residents have lived through different eras, raised families, built careers, served their communities, traveled, celebrated life’s biggest moments, and overcome challenges along the way. Their stories and experiences are an important part of who they are today.

The theme also shines a light on the people who surround our residents every day. Our caregivers, nurses, dining, housekeeping, life enrichment, and other team members all contribute in their own way to making Kemper House a warm, welcoming place to call home. National Assisted Living Week gives us the opportunity to recognize the compassion, dedication, and heart that our Kemper Krew brings to their work each day.

We have so many fun activities and events planned for National Assisted Living Week September 13-19, and we hope families can join their loved ones for some—or even all—of the fun! There will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy entertainment, special events, themed activities, and quality time together.
