Volunteer at Kemper House

Volunteer at Kemper House!

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of 2022 and the holiday season is upon us! There is no better way to end the year and celebrate the season of giving than by giving back. One of the best ways to give back is to volunteer! We would love for you to consider spending some time volunteering at Kemper House!

Hang on! We know you are busy, but think of the old adage, “If you want a job done, give it to a busy person.”  So that’s why we’re asking you to donate a little bit of your time to work with us, your loved one, and some of our residents. Now you may be thinking, “But I spend every Sunday with my mother at Kemper House already.”  Perfect! Consider including another resident along with your mother and make it into a small group.  We can help by adding some music or a game that can be enjoyed by all.

Whatever your thoughts might be, you should realize that volunteering has enormous benefits for you, for your loved ones, and for your community.  Just an hour a week can help you connect with other people who share a common interest and provide you with a handy support system as well.  Volunteering also provides a venue to display your marketable talents and network if you are job hunting.  Plus, don’t forget to include this valuable experience when you refresh your resume.

Many studies show that volunteering can give you more confidence and provide you with a sense of purpose.  You’ll discover more meaning in your life as well as more stimulation and PASSION!  Don’t we all enjoy creating more passion in our lives? Plus, did you know that volunteers have decreased symptoms of chronic pain and heart disease

Have children/grandchildren? Bring them along to experience even more benefits. Not only are you setting a positive example of giving back to others, you are demonstrating how you and they together can make a difference in people’s lives.  Think of how good that can make you all feel!   As an added bonus, keep in mind that our residents absolutely LOVE having young people around them!

Have a dog?  Bring him or her along!  Be sure to check with the front desk regarding necessary vet records if your pet will be a regular visitor.

See, it’s all good news!  So, what do we need our volunteers to do?  We can help you choose something that matches your comfort level plus we have all the supplies you will need.

*Read, *Listen, *Reminisce, *Cut, *Paste, *Play music, *Play cards, *Play games, *Hold hands, *Braid, *Knit, *Color, *Weave, *Paint, You name it, someone will enjoy it.  Have a special talent? Bring it on!

So, remember:  KEMPER HOUSE WANTS YOU! We can put your time, talents, and treasures to good use!
